Weak to the Elements

We had a beautiful parents weekend with warm weather, sunshine and a big W against Louisville, and then all of a sudden yesterday it decided to go down to freezing...
It went straight from summer to winter really fast.
I busted out a sweater, over the knee boots and my parka.

I ran into a friend in the library, after I already changed into my Uggs, Patagonia sweatshirt and North Face parka after dinner and he was like what are you wearing, you’re from Long Island, it’s not that cold.
My answer to him was that the south has made me weak to the elements.
And it really has.
I have no idea how I am ever going to live in the north again.
Literally…

Let's just talk about this sweater for a hot sec.
Omg.
It's adorable and I'm obsessed.
As you may know, I love big ruffle sleeves!
Click HERE to see my favorite shirt from last spring, that is obviously still in style!!
I have to say my arms did look a bit obese with all the tiers and then the big parka over them.
But it's okay!
I love this sweater!
This is the first thing I've ever bought from Francesca's and it won't be the last, because I am in love!
I bought this sweater in Charleston, when Emily, Caroline and I had our full day of shopping down King's Street.
I can't wait to buy more cute things from Francesca's!

My over the knee boots were brought out in full force yesterday!
I got these boots last year around this time from DSW because I wanted to try out the over the knee boot trend.
They are not the best quality, but it's fine, because I am still trying out the trend.
Surprisingly, they are actually pretty warm and super comfortable.
The biggest issue is that when I wear my black J Crew Gigi pants, they always fall down when I walk.
I think I have finally cracked the code on how to make them not fall down!
The key is to wear knee or mid calf socks under the boots over your pants, for some extra "grit" or friction, so the boots are less likely to slide down.
Also, if you wear the boots with jeans, the jeans also give a bit more friction and grit than slippery knit pants.
So just some pointers!
I don't know if I will ever buy a really nice pair of over the knee boots.
I don't really think it's my style.
But I'm gonna keep trying them out!

Project Pumpkin 2017

This year I didn't fully commit a whole day to Project Pumpkin like last year. I would have liked to but last year I did that and I remember having the craziest and most stressful day. I decided to not do that to myself again.
Instead of walking the children around to all the tables, I opted to stay at the KD table and help little children decorate cookies!
For those of you who don’t know, Project Pumpkin is a campus wide event where every organization and department set up a table on the upper quad and kids from all over the county come and trick or treat in a safe and fun environment!
This campus tradition was started because Wake students realized that the surrounding areas aren’t so safe for little kids to go trick-or-treating. And what a better place to bring them, then to the bubble of Wake Forest!
It was so fun and so cute! And I was able to do a half hour shift and then leave and then come back without any big responsibilities.
I wish I could've stayed longer but I had my chorus concert last night so I had to get ready.
I think it's really annoying that there are other events that go on the same day or night of a big campus wide event.
It's a real shame because we can't all focus on the most important event, the event where we raise money or the most awareness and the WHOLE school and community gets involved, and instead we have to balance it with events that don't necessarily impact the whole community.
Not that I'm saying that our chorus concert isn't important, because it is and I love performing but I think project pumpkin trumps chorus concert.

But all in all, both were a success!
For PP I wore my pink tutu over my clothes. It was a very Elisabeth outfit! It was great! I thoroughly enjoyed dressing like a 5 year old!
And then I changed into my gorgeous new choral gown that I bought over the summer with my mom.
My chorus prof said nothing too tight or revealing.... so my dress is tight but it is super super elegant and glamorous and I can't wait to wear this dress everyday over spring break when the chorus and I are singing in SPAIN!!!!
I'm so excited!!!
2018 is a big year of travel for me!
Get ready for some amazing travel diaries!!

Onto my class outfit:
I've had this shirt since early high school, and I think it is time to let it go.
It's not that it doesn't fit me anymore or that I don't like it anymore, it's just that I've had it for too long and it's time.
I guess it's a blessing that I'm not growing anymore (height wise, and I hope to stay waist wise the same) and my mom doesn't have to buy me a whole new wardrobe every season, but at the same time, because I am not growing, I accumulate too many clothes!
Once I get home for Christmas break I will be breaking out my Poshmark account again and start selling some of the beautiful clothes that I don't really wear anymore or that are too big for me!

Sophomore Slumps

Hi friends!

Sorry, that I've been a little MIA here on the blog recently!
I definitely haven't been MIA in real life though!
I have had the craziest and busiest couple of weeks!

Let me get you all caught up!
Ashley and I haven't been able to take a lot of photos because we have been so busy!
The weather also hasn't been that great, so it's hard to take pictures when it's wet and windy.

This past weekend, we had KD sisterhood, where we went to a pumpkin patch 45 min away and took cute pictures!
No one has sent me any of those photos....
Very annoyed about that.

After sisterhood, I helped host one of our KD date functions!
It was "my tie" themed and I got to bring Emily and Caroline because I didn't have a blind date.
But I had so much fun with them, until three girls threw up on the buses that I was in charge of!
Woo!
That's always fun!

Monday night was the Breast Cancer Fashion show where all the sororities participated in and helped to raise money for Susan G. Koman in support of breast cancer! We raised $3,000!!!
It was so much fun and I want to be the model from KD senior year strutting down the runway! Just putting that out there now!

This weekend is family weekend and I am so excited to see my parents!
I made lots of good dinner reservations and I can't wait to let them spoil me all weekend!
We also have a football game on Saturday and I am going to make them come to the tailgate with me!!

So now that you're all caught up, let's talk about the sophomore slumps.
I had no idea what the sophomore slumps were until I was venting to Giorgia and she told me that I have a case of them.
She described them as "when you have no motivation to do anything but you also have a lot of work and there's a lot of things you’re responsible for but you’re like dying."
Nicely put George!
I couldn't agree more!

My life is so busy.
I am training to be a tour guide, I'm the KD date function chair and on the Girl Scout Committee. I am in WFU Style. I volunteer for Wake Speaks. I am also in ballroom dance club!
I am pretty involved on campus.
And on top of all of those activities, I still have to balance doing homework and hanging out with friends.

When I was talking to Giorgia, I confessed that I wasn't very happy.
A lot of girls in my sorority have their set friend groups and some aren't very inclusive.
I felt a bit left out last week and this weekend at pumpkin picking.
I also felt like everyone hated me.

But I realized that honestly, it's just one girl who is rubbing me the wrong way for no reason.
She is acting kind of like a girl I used to know in high school who ended up being a bully...

I keep telling myself, that I only have three more years of college and if I'm not happy about something, to change it!
So that's what I'm doing!
I am making a conscious effort to see friends in my sorority that want to hang out with me and who want to put effort into our friendship and not the mean girl.
I am also making an effort to hang out with girls in my sorority that I don't really know that well! I love being surrounded by great people and I want to have more wonderful people around me!
I am trying not to "put all my eggs in one basket," as I was told by a social worker at my elementary school years ago.
I am continuing to live by that rule.

I feel like I am back in freshman year where I was having a hard time balancing friends, life and school. It's happening all over again.
Wake Forest is trying to kick me in the butt.
Now that I'm a sophomore, classes are a bit challenging.
One part of me is saying "friends, friends, friends," and "C's get degrees..." but the other part of my body is telling me, "to get into a good law school you have to have a really good GPA..."
Ya see my dilemma?

I'm trying to figure it out.
It's not easy.
But I'm getting through it like I always do!
And you can too!
Have a great rest of your week!!

xoxo

Happy Fall Y'all!

Happy fall y'all!
It literally went from 85 degrees in Charleston, South Carolina to 45 degrees in Winston-Salem, North Carolina!
What a huge difference!
We literally came back from fall break and it was fall!
If you haven't read my fall break blog post go read it right now!! Click HERE to see lots of pretty pictures from Charleston!
Crazy!

But I am ready for the colder weather, I think...
On Friday I plan to swap my wardrobe and take out all of my winter clothes and boots out from under my bed!
And then put away most of my summer clothes because it is only supposed to get colder from here!!

Another great transition outfit and my first sweater of the season!!

Southern Charm in Charleston, South Carolina

After a five hour drive Caroline, Emily and I arrived at Caroline's grandparents house in Charleston, South Carolina on Wednesday night.
We were welcomed with homemade sauce and pasta.
Shortly after our first home cooked meal in a long time, we all crashed really early after our "long" three day week before fall break.

We slept in a bit the next morning and then made our way over to Folly beach.
Think of the beach in Nicholas Sparks' book or movie the Last Song. That was actually the book I was reading that day, that I borrowed from Grandma.

After digging our toes into the sand, and getting some sun we went over to Caroline's favorite lunch spot, the Lost Dog.
All over the restaurant are hundreds of pictures of various dogs that have visited the restaurant. It was very cute!

Grandma then drove us around downtown Charleston a bit, so we could get a feel for the city!
We even saw a bit of the College of Charleston!
We were looking for all the cute and preppy southern boys but couldn't find any. All of the students, including the girls, did not look cute!
They were all in oversized t-shirts, shorts and sneakers.

All around campus they have big signs up that says College of Charleston was voted the prettiest campus in all of America by the Princeton Review.
I don't know if I agree with that.... but okkkk!

For dinner, Grandma prepared salmon and asparagus. A fan favorite amongst Caroline, Emily and I.
We snuggled up in bed and then after a couple episodes of Gossip Girl, an oldie but a goodie, we passed out.

By this time in our weekend away, we forgot about all of our responsibilities and about all the homework we brought with us and we decided to just enjoy ourselves.
And we really did!
We felt so relaxed. Everyday we went on a walk around the battery.
We looked at the water and all the pretty boats, and the even prettier houses!
Caroline's grandparents actually live on the battery so we could see the water every morning when we woke up!

Friday morning after oatmeal and the perfect hard boiled eggs we went to the famous King Street for shopping! After going into many many stores, I only bought three items...
I tried on a good amount of clothes but kind of struck out!
I was hoping to buy a lot of fall sweaters and stuff because I have been so so so good and haven't bought any clothes this whole semester!
We then went to the Village Juice of Charleston, Beech for poke bowls. They were really good but really expensive...
After spending too much money on lunch, we went over to the famous Rainbow Row!
My dream of taking a cute photo in front of the pink house was fulfilled!!!
Caro, Em and I took such cute Instagram worthy photos, as you can see above!

We then walked along the battery to home and got ready to go out to dinner at the Charleston Country Club with Caroline's great grandmother!
God bless her!
Such a pretty golf course and such a wonderful meal!
Scallops and rissito for Emily and I!
So delicious!

While we were getting ready for dinner I learned that some people consider it impolite to have wet hair.... so Emily kindly blew dried my hair after I announced I was just going to go to dinner with wet hair. I guess I should probably buy a hair dryer! I just always let my hair air dry because it dries so nice via air drying.
But it did look really nice after Em gave me a blow out!

Before going to dinner, we searched for the famous pineapple fountain!
The fountain was Emily's goal to find on this trip!
And we found it!
The pictures (again) turned out so cute!!

Saturday morning after a big breakfast of scrambled eggs and grits we made our way out onto the boat!
It was Emily and my first time having grits!
I have to say that they taste exactly like farina! Which I've been having my whole life! So I really enjoyed them!
Friday we toured Charleston by land and on Saturday we toured Charleston by sea!
We saw Caroline's grandparent's house from the water, the beautiful Ravenel bridge, a cruise ship, the USS Yorktown, a submarine from WWII, the Citadel, Fort Sumter- which was where the shot around the world was heard and the first settlement of Charleston.
Steak and potatoes were on the menu for dinner Saturday night!
My mouth is salivating just thinking about it now. It was phenomenal as usual!

It was a wonderful weekend!
We were so so so relaxed and we were so sad to leave Sunday morning.
It was just such a nice break from reality!
It was fun to get to explore a new city with my best friends and at the same time it was wonderful to be spoiled by Caroline's grandparents!
Caroline said, "this vacation felt like I just got a massage..." I couldn't agree more!

But now back to the real world!!

Neutrals

It's been hurricane season for a while now.
And I still don't know how to dress for the weather!
It is super super hot and humid but overcast all day long.
And also it's October!!
It sure doesn't feel like it, so I'm having a hard time figuring out what to wear everyday!

Yesterday I settled with neutrals and a pop of color in my earrings.
The temperature screams summer but the forecast does not.
And I feel like I keep wearing the same thing over and over again!
It's probably because a) I haven't bought any new clothes since school started (BE PROUD OF ME) and b) I left a good amount of clothes at home!

But don't worry, it it supposed to feel and look like summer this weekend when I'm on fall break! And I will get to wear the rest of my summer clothes!
I am going somewhere really warm and on the water this weekend!
I have never been to this place before and I am so so soooo excited!!!
It seems like a very "me" place!
One more day of school and then I'm off for four days!

I have been super stressed out these last couple of weeks leading up to fall break becusse I have two big projects due right after break and I want them done before break starts so I can actually enjoy myself and not stress or work on them over break!
I'm so close to being done!
I can't wait for fall break!!!
