As I wrap up my last week in Dijon (very bitter sweet week) after four months of living here, I have discovered the best things to do, see and eat in the capital of the Burgundy region.
5 things to do:
1. Place de la Libération and the Palais des Ducs de Bourgogne- Yes, I live in a town that has a palace, no biggie! One of the first things you should go see in Dijon, and one of the first things we did visit when we arrived back in August. Surrounding the palace are little cafés and bars for a little lunch or drink!
2. The owl- The city emblem is the owl! We have an owl that is on the side of Notre Dame Cathedral, that you can rub for good luck. (And while you are there, you might as well stop into the church!)
3. Rue de la Libertié- SHOPPPINGGG!! There is an amazing macaroon shop, Pralus and L’Occitan on the actual street, but off this street are other amazing shopping streets. One road has Longchamp. Another has every fashion boutique you could ever imagine, from high end to Forever 21 like prices.
4. Place Darcy and Darcy Jardin (garden)- The start of town is Place Darcy! It is where I get on and off the bus and take the tram each morning and night. There is a little Arc de Triomph that is very cute, and a beautiful park behind it! The park has another town symbol, the polar bear, and is definitely a must see!
5. Les Halles de Dijon- A market place that is only open on the weekends, where you can buy the freshest ingredients perfect for a picnic, which is exactly what we did one weekend in October!
Now the best 5 restaurants:
1. Speakeasy- It can’t be beat. This is hands down the best restaurant in all of Dijon. I have been twice now, for two very special occasions, and both times ordered the menu: salad, salmon and chocolate lava cake with a glass of pinot noir from Burgundy.
2. Au Jardin des Halles- A new discovery but an amazing one. Right next to Les Halles like Speakeasy, a new restaurant with amazing flavor. The escargot was buttery and delicious and the Chicken Gaston Gerad (a Dijon speciality) was amazing.
3. La Bourgogne- The BEST chocolate lava cake in all of Dijon. I have sampled the lava cake every restaurant we go to, and this one definitely has the best!
4. Les Moulins Bleus- My favorite place for crêpes! These lunch crepes are HUGE and so delicious!
5. Tartin’art- The best quick and easy place for lunch. The Chef sandwich is my favorite with a quiche Lorraine on the side.
