Last Thursday I turned 24! Today I am sharing my annual blog post about my birthday weekend. You can check out my Instagram stories and reel for more behind the scenes of our weekend. I had a lovely birthday weekend. It was so much fun and I felt so loved near and far by friends and family. Thank you for your sweet birthday messages.

Starting the day before my birthday I was showered with gifts from my coworkers. I teased the idea out that I would work from home on my birthday because I really didn’t want to go into the office on my birthday (because who actually wants to work on their birthday), but I decided that I would work in person on Thursday because I was working on a big project that is easier to do in person than remote. Anyway, my team totally surprised me and showered me with gifts. Another co-worker gave me a bouquet of flowers and a handwritten card. Another coworker in the Midwest shipped me a bracelet. I felt so loved on my last day of 23.

24!
I am a sentimental person. I always get a little emotional on my birthday because I am partially sad that I am getting older but at the same time it’s also exciting, for a fresh start (like New Year’s Eve). It’s nice to be able to reflect on the year that I had. It’s also a nice reminder of how much I’m loved by friends and family far and wide.
I woke up on my birthday and I was surprised to see stick-balloons all over the bathroom and the kitchen. I went for my 6am walk, bumped into my birthday twin in the kitchen after our morning exercises and then headed to work. I was surprised to find a bottle of wine on my desk.
After lunch, I got a call from Grubhub that a gift was waiting for me in the lobby of my office building. I was praying it was something office appropriate. Thankfully, it was a tray of cookies from my friend Lauren, who wanted to make sure everyone in the office knew it was my birthday. Of course, they already knew because I’m a Leo, and we Leos love to talk about ourselves. I ate about 8 cookies…
For dinner, my parents took my twin and I to Nino’s Beach. Nino’s is a new restaurant that opened in Port Washington, on Long Island, on the water. It is a limited menu, but the food was delicious. It is also definitely a place to be seen. Lots of fancy designer bags, shoes and outfits on the dinner guests. But overall, it was a great experience.
We finished the night with our favorite chocolate mousse cake from Buttercooky Bakery.

I got my nails done and put on a spicy outfit for my NYC family dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant: Giano, in the East Village. I had the Gemelli with pesto, we shared burrata, calamari, and a couple of bottles of wine. The owner even sang to me with a tiramisu.
We rushed over to our drinks reservation at the Garret East, a speakeasy behind Borrachito, a taco stand, also in the East Village. It was scorching hot in there. It was fun though. I thought it was table only bar, so I made a reservation, but it didn’t seem like you actually needed one, as there were plenty of people standing.
Butter Lane cupcakes, also in the East Village, are the best cupcakes!

Alex and I woke up early and headed to my favorite place in NYC, (you guessed it) Governors Island. Governors Island just opened a spa on island, QC NY. It was divine. This was my birthday gift from Alex. I absolutely savored every minute. We checked in at 11:30 am and had booked a 5 hour stay. The spa is beautiful.
We put our stuff in our lockers, in the beautiful locker rooms, where we found our towels, robes and flipflops. I wore my own flipflops. We then grabbed chairs, on the best spot on the lawn, overlooking Manhattan in front of the pool. There were no umbrellas or shady spots, so Alex melted, but I loved every second. We alternated our time between our chairs in the sun and the very warmly heated pools with various spots with bubbles and lounge seats. It was so relaxing.
There are two outdoor pools with lots of places to sit and lounge. After becoming prunes, we went inside and had lunch at the Bistro. It was very overpriced airport-like food. I would opt out of the food if you don’t go around lunch time. If you bought an alcoholic beverage, you got a complementary snack plate.
Alex and I explored the grounds a bit more and found the various relaxation rooms upstairs. There was a room with various perfumes, an infrared room, a meditation room, a room with egg chairs, a room that was upside down (yes, actually), and a room with rocking chairs. Also, this spa had about 10 saunas located all over the property. After going upstairs to explore, we went downstairs to the basement and found more saunas (one sauna had a temperature of 157 degrees Fahrenheit, no thanks). We also found steam rooms, foot baths and the Vichy showers. We tried two steam rooms for all of 2 minutes before I felt like I couldn’t breathe and we had to get out. I enjoyed the Vichy showers. It was relaxing. The footbaths grossed me out.
Maybe the best part was the real shower in the locker room. It was the best shower I’ve had in a long time. You know when the water is the perfect pressure and the perfect temperature? That was this one. The locker rooms were immaculate. The best part about the locker rooms were the vanity areas with Dyson hairdryers (yes, you read that right).
I recommend going earlier in the day, like we did at 11:30, to get a good seat by the pool or by the views. In the afternoon, it got really busy, but I loved it. I definitely will be going back.
After our relaxing pool day, we walked over to Pizza Yard on the island, where I ordered 7 pizzas for our sunset pizza dinner. I was determined to spend the whole day on Governor’s Island, and that’s what I did. Some friends came to meet Alex and I at a picnic table overlooking the skyline and Lady Liberty. We ate, ate some more cupcakes (I had two at dinner, oops) and then I showed our friends the best parts of Governors Island before taking the ferry back to the mainland.

The fun didn’t stop on Sunday. My family came over after dinner Sunday night for “Cocktails and Cake.” Hardly anyone drank, it was Sunday night, but there was plenty of dessert and cake at my house. I ended the night with some cookies and another cupcake.
